[ ] Research Employer Organisation
Read employee manual carefully to determine whether any company policies prohibit telecommuting. Review management systems and cultures for confidence in the ability to "manage at a distance"and faith in staff's commitment to perform as remote workers.
[ ] Review Work Tasks
Not all tasks are best performed in a remote, self managed environment. There are many tasks that gain considerably from the very close interactions of a team working together in one room, or from the synergy of closely supervised teams.

[ ] Propose Schedule (i.e. work remote 3 days a wk)
[ ] Outline Benefits to Employer
- Cost beneficial
- Tool to attract, motivate and retain talent
- Productivity (studies have proven that teleworking 1 to 3 days per week easily increases overall employee productivity by 10 to 20%, and acts as a great way to trim overtime and related costs); also better use of time spent on the road.
- Emergency preparedness (minimizes security risks and disruption during strikes, floods, epidemics, bad weather etc.)
- Telework is a morale builder.
- Relocation costs
Why move people when you can move their work? Telework and some business travel are a much cheaper combination than relocating staff and/or replacing those that quit rather than move.
- Absenteeism
Canadians miss 10 days/year on average (11.7 for public servants) due to illness, childcare, eldercare, being home for trades people etc. No one expects employees to work when too ill, but teleworkers can often perform at least some of their normal work. Studies show that telework cuts absenteeism by 20%.

[ ] Describe The Incumbent
Tout your value to the company and the traits that will make you an effective teleworker, citing evidence of those traits
[ ] Define The Place
- include assurances you will be reachable and flexilbe to come into the office on relatively short notice if you are urgently needed.
- describe equipment and environment (i.e. no children underfoot or noisy neighbours on the other side of a flimsy wall).
