Reframe Rejection:

http://loguelikevogue8.blogspot.com/2007/03/persistence.html

did you know that Babe Ruth is the all time leader in home run percentages?? (at least he was the last time i had a take your kids to work day doing my research) did you know that his 714 career home runs and lifetime batting average .342 has a hidden statistic??

BABE RUTH STRUCK OUT
more than 3000 times !!!

so, think about that, and then go ahead and strike your way to success!

the impressionists
when, in 1874, a group of painters living in Paris decided to launch their own exhibition after repeated rejection by the official Salon, non of them would have dared prophesy that their art, nicknamed IMPRESSIONISM, would revolutionize artistic perception and technique.

why is it that their paintings, while harshly condemned at the time of their creation as hideous and shoddy, are now universally acclaimed for their beauty?

post rejection syndrome = the devasting mix of shame and despair that overcomes one when you don't get published (again) or you do and your work is criticized or you don't get the job or you don't get the date (like the guy crosses the street away from you before you can ask him) or you don't win the contest or whatever...

the best way to deal with anticipation is not to deaden all hope but to have an effective plan for dealing with disappointment. it's like buying insurance. you don't go out looking for bad things to happen but you know that if they do, you'll have the resources to cope.

expect to have expectations. expect that they will sometimes be unfulfilled, and expect that when they are you'll go through the predictable stages of the grieving process.

denial
bargaining
anger
pajamas
grief
acceptance
shopping

rolling with the punches can work for you too.

meanwhile, one reason to ALSO expect the best is that such anticipation, in itself, is a joyful activity.
